Linear dichroism

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006616

The differential absorption of linearly polarized light by a sample, depending on the orientation of the electric field vector relative to a specific axis within the sample. This phenomenon arises when the absorbing molecules are anisotropically oriented. It is measured as the difference in absorbance for light polarized parallel and perpendicular to the orientation axis.
