Linear discriminant analysis
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006617
A supervised classification method that projects high-dimensional data onto a lower-dimensional space to maximize the separability between predefined classes. The projection is achieved by identifying a new axis, the linear discriminant, that maximizes the ratio of between-class variance to within-class variance. Unlike principal component analysis (PCA), which is an unsupervised method focused on explaining variance, linear discriminant analysis explicitly uses class label information to achieve separation.
