Meso structures

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007206

Stereoisomers that contain chiral centers but are achiral overall due to an internal plane of symmetry or other symmetry elements. These molecules are superimposable on their mirror images and do not rotate plane-polarized light. An example is meso-tartaric acid, which has two chiral carbons but is optically inactive.
