Grunwald-Winstein equation
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005049
A linear free-energy relationship used to correlate the rates of solvolysis reactions with the ionizing power of the solvent. The equation relates the logarithm of the rate constant to a solvent ionizing power parameter (Y) and a substrate sensitivity parameter (m). It is expressed as log(k/k0) = mY + c, where k and k0 are rate constants in the solvent and a reference solvent, respectively.
