Sechenov equation
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010604
An empirical equation that describes the salting-out effect, which is the decrease in the solubility of a non-electrolyte in water upon the addition of a salt. It relates the solubility of the non-electrolyte to the concentration of the salt. The equation is typically expressed as log(S₀/S) = kC, where S₀ and S are solubilities in pure water and salt solution, respectively, k is the Sechenov constant, and C is the salt concentration.
