Drude-Nernst equation

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003440

An equation that describes the relationship between the volume electrostriction of a solvent and the change in the molar volume of an ion upon its transfer from a vacuum to the solvent. It quantifies the contraction of the solvent around an ion due to electrostatic interactions. The equation relates the volume change to the ion's charge number, the elementary charge, and the permittivity of the solvent, providing a model for the effect of ionic charge on solvent structure.
