Electron number of an electrochemical reaction

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003731

A dimensionless quantity representing the number of electrons transferred per mole of a reactant according to the balanced stoichiometric equation for an electrode reaction. This value, denoted by the symbol n, is an integer for a specific half-reaction. It is a key parameter used in the Nernst equation to calculate cell potential and in Faraday's laws to relate charge to the amount of substance reacted.
