Microphthalmia

A congenital developmental disorder in which one or both eyeballs are abnormally small. The condition results from arrested development of the eye during gestation and can lead to blindness or reduced vision. Microphthalmia can occur as an isolated anomaly or as part of a syndrome involving other abnormalities, and its severity ranges from a slightly smaller eye with near-normal vision to a rudimentary ocular structure.
