Relating to the eye or the sense of vision, particularly concerning the structures involved in sight. In developmental toxicology, the term describes components of the developing visual system, such as the optic cup, optic stalk, and optic nerve. Exposure to certain teratogenic agents during gestation can disrupt the formation of these structures, leading to congenital malformations like anophthalmia or microphthalmia.
