Optical absorption depth
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008266
The distance within a material at which the intensity of incident electromagnetic radiation decreases to 1/e (approximately 36.8%) of its initial value. This parameter is inversely related to the linear Napierian absorption coefficient. It indicates how deeply light penetrates a substance before being significantly absorbed.
