Phytohemagglutinin

A lectin extracted from the red kidney bean (Phaseolus vulgaris) that can agglutinate red blood cells and stimulate lymphocyte proliferation. It is a mitogen that specifically activates T lymphocytes, inducing them to divide and differentiate. This protein is composed of four subunits and has a molecular weight of approximately 128 kDa.
