Rosette
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010410
A microscopic cluster formed by a central cell, typically a lymphocyte, surrounded by and attached to other cells, such as erythrocytes. The formation of these structures is used in certain immunological assays to identify and count specific populations of lymphocytes. For example, human T lymphocytes form rosettes with sheep red blood cells, a characteristic historically used for their enumeration in blood samples.
