B-cell stimulatory factor

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001153

A cytokine that induces the activation, proliferation, or differentiation of B lymphocytes, which are central to the humoral immune response. These factors are produced by other immune cells, such as T helper cells, and bind to specific receptors on the surface of B cells, initiating signaling cascades that lead to antibody production. Interleukin-4 (IL-4) and Interleukin-5 (IL-5) are prominent examples of B-cell stimulatory factors.
