Collectin
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002205
A type of soluble pattern recognition receptor belonging to the C-type lectin superfamily, characterized by a collagen-like region and a carbohydrate-recognition domain. These proteins bind to specific carbohydrate patterns found on the surfaces of microorganisms, such as bacteria and viruses, but not on host cells. Mannose-binding lectin is a well-known collectin that, upon binding to a pathogen, activates the lectin pathway of the complement system.
