Acute-phase protein

A class of proteins whose plasma concentrations increase or decrease by at least 25% in response to inflammation. These proteins are primarily synthesized in the liver and are part of the innate immune response. C-reactive protein and serum amyloid A are examples of positive acute-phase proteins.
