Glycan-binding protein
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004932
A protein that specifically recognizes and binds to carbohydrates (glycans), either as free sugars or as part of glycoproteins, glycolipids, or proteoglycans. These proteins mediate a wide variety of biological processes, including cell adhesion, cell signaling, and immune responses, through their interaction with specific carbohydrate structures. Lectins are a major class of glycan-binding proteins that are not antibodies or enzymes.
