Glycoconjugate

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004936

A compound in which one or more carbohydrate units, called glycans, are covalently linked to a non-carbohydrate moiety. This non-carbohydrate part, known as the aglycone, can be a protein, a peptide, a lipid, or another organic molecule. Major classes of glycoconjugates include glycoproteins, where the aglycone is a protein, and glycolipids, where the aglycone is a lipid molecule found in cell membranes.
