Glycopeptides
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004945
Compounds consisting of a peptide chain linked covalently to one or more carbohydrate units, also known as glycans. The linkage forms between an amino acid residue of the peptide and a monosaccharide of the glycan, either through a nitrogen atom of an asparagine side chain (N-linked) or an oxygen atom of a serine or threonine side chain (O-linked). This structural class includes certain antibiotics, such as vancomycin, which functions by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis in gram-positive bacteria.
