Gammaglobulin

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004751

A class of proteins found in the blood plasma, identified by their migration as the slowest fraction during serum protein electrophoresis. This fraction is primarily composed of immunoglobulins, which are antibodies that function in the immune system to identify and neutralize foreign objects like bacteria and viruses. Gammaglobulin preparations from pooled human plasma are used therapeutically to provide passive immunity against certain diseases.
