Β-amyloid

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001105

A peptide of 36 to 43 amino acids that is the main component of amyloid plaques found in the brains of patients with Alzheimer disease. It is formed by the proteolytic cleavage of the amyloid precursor protein (APP). The aggregation of these peptides into insoluble fibrils is considered a key event in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer disease.
