Tauopathy

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011828

A class of neurodegenerative diseases characterized by the pathological aggregation of hyperphosphorylated tau protein in the brain. These aggregates form insoluble inclusions, such as neurofibrillary tangles, which impair neuronal function and lead to cell death. Alzheimer's disease is the most common tauopathy, but others include frontotemporal dementia and progressive supranuclear palsy.
