Paired helical filament
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008422
An abnormal fibrillar structure found in the brains of individuals with Alzheimer's disease and other tauopathies. These filaments are composed primarily of hyperphosphorylated tau protein, which aggregates and forms neurofibrillary tangles. The accumulation of these structures is a hallmark pathological feature of these neurodegenerative conditions.
