Amyloid plaque
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000530
Extracellular deposits of aggregated beta-amyloid (β-amyloid) peptides that accumulate in the brain tissue of individuals with Alzheimer's disease. These insoluble protein aggregates are a hallmark pathological feature of the disease, contributing to neuronal dysfunction and cognitive decline. The plaques are formed from the proteolytic cleavage of amyloid precursor protein.
