Senile dementia

A progressive and irreversible decline in cognitive function, including memory, language, and problem-solving abilities, with an onset in old age. This condition results from brain disease or injury and is severe enough to interfere with daily life and independent function. While often used interchangeably with Alzheimer disease, senile dementia is a broader category, and Alzheimer disease is its most common cause.
