Frontotemporal dementia
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004685
A group of neurodegenerative disorders in which nerve cells in the frontal and temporal regions of the cerebrum progressively die, producing changes in personality, behavior and language while memory stays relatively intact in the early stages. Under the microscope the affected neurons contain abnormal protein deposits, most often of tau or TDP-43. Mutations in the genes MAPT, GRN and C9orf72 are the main known genetic causes.
