Acute-phase response

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000210

A systemic reaction of the body to infection, inflammation, or trauma, characterized by a rapid and transient alteration in the concentration of certain plasma proteins. This response involves the release of cytokines, which stimulate the liver to synthesize acute-phase proteins. Fever, leukocytosis, and altered metabolic states are common features of this response.
