Zymosan
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012828
A complex carbohydrate derived from the cell walls of yeast, primarily Saccharomyces cerevisiae, known for its ability to activate the innate immune system. It acts as a pathogen-associated molecular pattern (PAMP) and is recognized by pattern recognition receptors, such as Toll-like receptor 2. Zymosan is a potent activator of the alternative pathway of the complement system.
