Convertase
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002547
An enzyme that catalyzes the conversion of an inactive precursor protein into its active form by proteolytic cleavage. These enzymes are often involved in cascade reactions, such as those found in blood clotting or complement activation. For example, proprotein convertases activate peptide hormones and growth factors.
