Proteinase
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009588
An enzyme that catalyzes the hydrolysis of peptide bonds in proteins or peptides. These enzymes are also known as peptidases or proteases, and they play a part in many biological processes, including digestion, blood clotting, and immune response. They are classified based on their catalytic mechanism, such as serine, cysteine, aspartic, or metalloproteinases.
