Proteinase 3
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009589
A serine proteinase found primarily in the azurophilic granules of neutrophils, a type of white blood cell. This enzyme contributes to the degradation of extracellular matrix components and the killing of phagocytosed microorganisms. Autoantibodies against proteinase 3 are associated with certain autoimmune diseases, particularly granulomatosis with polyangiitis (Wegener's granulomatosis).
