Degranulation

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002933

The process by which immune cells, such as mast cells, basophils, and neutrophils, release pre-formed mediators stored in cytoplasmic granules into the extracellular space. This release occurs in response to specific stimuli, such as allergens or pathogens, and contributes to inflammatory and immune responses. The contents of these granules include histamine, proteases, and cytokines.
