Basophilic degranulation
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001136
The process by which basophils release the contents of their cytoplasmic granules, including histamine, heparin, and proteases, into the extracellular environment. This occurs in response to specific stimuli, such as allergens binding to IgE antibodies on the cell surface. It is a key event in immediate-type hypersensitivity reactions and inflammation.
