Basophil

A type of granulocyte, a white blood cell characterized by the presence of cytoplasmic granules that stain dark blue with basic dyes. These cells are involved in allergic reactions and immune responses, releasing histamine and other mediators. Basophils constitute less than 1% of circulating leukocytes in healthy individuals.
