Neutrophil activation

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007926

A series of cellular responses initiated when a neutrophil is stimulated by inflammatory signals, preparing it to perform its immune functions. Triggers include cytokines, bacterial components, or complement proteins, which induce changes such as adhesion, migration, phagocytosis, and degranulation. A key feature of this process is the respiratory burst, a rapid release of reactive oxygen species used to destroy pathogens.
