Systemic

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-013633

Relating to or affecting the entire body or a whole organism, rather than a localized part or a single organ. A systemic effect of a substance occurs when it enters the bloodstream and is distributed throughout the body, potentially reaching and acting on multiple tissues and organs distant from the initial point of entry. This is in contrast to a local effect, which is confined to the site of exposure.
