Topical effect

A localized biological or pharmacological response occurring at the site of direct application of a substance, with minimal or no systemic distribution. This effect is achieved when the substance acts primarily on the surface or within the immediate vicinity of its application. An example is the anti-inflammatory action of a corticosteroid cream on skin.
