Local effect

A toxicological response that occurs at the site of contact between a chemical substance and an organism, without being absorbed into the systemic circulation. This effect is confined to the area of exposure, such as skin irritation from a corrosive agent. It contrasts with systemic effects, which manifest after absorption and distribution throughout the body.
