Corrosive

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002612

Describing a substance that causes visible destruction or irreversible alterations in living tissue at the site of contact. The mechanism involves a chemical reaction, such as protein denaturation or cell membrane disruption, rather than a physical effect like abrasion. Substances are classified as corrosive based on standardized tests, such as the OECD Test Guideline 404, which assesses dermal effects on animal skin.
