Dung fly test
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003475
A bioassay that tests the toxicity of a substance, such as a veterinary drug residue, by mixing it into bovine dung to which dung fly eggs are added, then counting the number, sex and morphology of the adult flies that emerge. It assesses effects on insect larvae that develop in pasture dung, and it is standardised in an OECD guideline using Scathophaga stercoraria and Musca autumnalis.
