Duodenum
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003476
The first and shortest segment of the small intestine, immediately following the stomach and leading into the jejunum. It receives partially digested food, known as chyme, from the stomach and mixes it with bile from the liver and digestive enzymes from the pancreas. In humans, the duodenum is a C-shaped structure approximately 25 to 38 centimeters long, making it distinct from the longer jejunum and ileum.
