Midgut

The middle part of the embryonic gut tube, which gives rise to the distal duodenum, jejunum, ileum, cecum, appendix, ascending colon and proximal two thirds of the transverse colon. It is supplied by the superior mesenteric artery and during development herniates into the umbilical cord before returning to the abdomen.
