Distal
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003335
Describing a position lying farther from the trunk, or from the point where a structure begins or is attached, than a chosen reference point. In anatomy it is applied to limbs and organs, so the wrist is distal to the elbow and the fingertip is the most distal part of a finger. Its opposite is proximal, meaning nearer to the trunk or to the point of attachment.
