Appendix

A small, finger-like blind tube attached to the cecum, the first part of the large intestine, in humans and certain other mammals. In humans the vermiform appendix lies in the lower right quadrant of the abdomen. In anatomy the word also names other blind sacs or diverticula, such as the appendix testis and the appendix epididymis, which are small vestigial structures.
