Sphincter

A circular muscle that surrounds an orifice or passage, controlling its opening and closing by contraction and relaxation. These muscles regulate the flow of substances through tubular structures in the body. Examples include the pyloric sphincter, which controls food passage from the stomach to the duodenum.
