Myeloperoxidase
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007733
A heme-containing enzyme found primarily in the azurophilic granules of neutrophils and monocytes. It catalyzes the formation of hypochlorous acid (HOCl) from hydrogen peroxide and chloride ions, a potent antimicrobial agent. This enzyme is a key component of the innate immune system's defense against pathogens.
