Lyophobic colloid
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002244
A colloidal particle that has a weak affinity for the dispersion medium, tending to repel the solvent and forming less stable dispersions. In drilling fluids, these colloids, such as finely ground barite or drilled cuttings, require stabilizing agents to prevent flocculation and settling. They are more prone to aggregation and precipitation than lyophilic colloids.
