Hydrophone
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001920
A transducer that converts underwater acoustic pressure waves into electrical signals. In marine seismic acquisition, arrays of hydrophones are housed within long cables called streamers, which are towed behind a survey vessel to record reflected seismic energy. These devices are sensitive to compressional waves (P-waves), whereas geophones, used on land or the seabed, measure particle velocity.
