Micrite
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002348
A microcrystalline calcite mud that forms the matrix or cement in many limestones, consisting of carbonate particles less than four microns in diameter. It originates from the breakdown of skeletal grains, precipitation from seawater, or bacterial activity. The presence and distribution of micrite greatly influence the porosity and permeability of carbonate reservoirs, often reducing their storage and flow capacity.
