Microannulus
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002349
A small, often microscopic, gap that forms between the cement sheath and the casing or formation wall in a wellbore. This gap can result from thermal expansion and contraction, pressure changes, or poor cementing practices. A microannulus can provide a pathway for fluid migration, potentially leading to sustained casing pressure or communication between different zones.
