Gun clearance

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001771

The distance between the outer wall of a perforating gun and the inner wall of the casing or liner it is deployed in. This standoff distance affects the performance of the shaped charges, with smaller clearances generally producing deeper penetration into the formation. Gun clearance is a key parameter in perforating job design and is managed using centralizers on the gun assembly.
